By defeating the Chicago White Sox 4-3 tonight at U.S. Cellular Field, the Arizona Diamondbacks have assured themselves of a winning record on this three city, nine game road trip. However, it wasn’t easy as Addison Reed got Paul Konerko to ground to second base to end the game with the tying run on second after the Sox had already scored once in the inning.
Wade Miley pitched seven strong innings to get the victory, giving up two runs on four hits, walking no one while striking out six. The lefty evened his record at 3-3, lowering his ERA to 4.82. Miley and Chicago starter Jose Quintana (1-3, 3.67 ERA) matched zeros through the first four innings. In the fifth, the D’backs scored three times on Alfredo Marte‘s double, A.J. Pollock‘s single and Martin Prado‘s sacrifice fly. The Pale Hose answered with a Konerko two-run home run in the bottom of the inning. Miguel Montero delivered RBI single in the top of the seventh to give the D’backs a 4-2. Brad Ziegler pitched a scoreless eighth with Reed closing it out for his 11th save.
The series wraps up tomorrow with Chase Anderson set to make his Major League debut for the Snakes. He will be opposed by Chicago’s Hector Noesi. The Mother’s Day matinee is set to begin at 11:10 AM MST.
