Jake Lamb Stroking for Mobile

Earlier this week, Nick Evans of the Reno Aces was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week. After Sunday, we may get to see another award for an Arizona Diamondback Minor Leaguer.

Jake Lamb, the third baseman for the D’backs’ Double A affiliate Mobile BayBears, is having a sizzling week at the plate. In four contests, Lamb is 8 for 17 with three multi-hit games with an OPS of 1.300. His hot stretch has ignited a five game winning streak for Mobile, enabling them to open a three game lead in the Southern League’s South division. For the season, the 23-year old Lamb leads the BayBears in three categories: hits (40), doubles (11) and home runs (6) and is second in RBI’s with 26.  He was taken in the 4th round of the 2012 Draft out of the University of Washington and is now the organization’s 6th-ranked prospect. Lamb’s strength is his bat as his career slash line in the Minors is .309/.395/.535. He has five errors in 37 games but he has soft hands and a good arm which will compensate for any shortcomings.

Most people agree that the Snakes are strong at shortstop within the Minor League system. However, with Lamb and Brandon Drury on the way up, third base is starting to become a premium position as well. If Mobile wins another division crown in 2014, you can bet Jake Lamb will have a big part in it.
