Diamondbacks Dominated by Wainwright, Fall 5-0

Tony LaRussa was all the rage before the Arizona Diamondbacks opened their series against the St. Louis Cardinals. By the end of the game, it was Adam Wainwright that had everyone swooning. The D’backs were helpless against Waino as the Cards’ ace allowed a single hit while walking no one en route to 5-0 complete game victory. Not even a 15 minute delay during the fourth inning die to an ill umpire could slow down the locked-in Wainwright. Paul Goldschmidt‘s double in the fourth was the only base runner for the Snakes.

Bronson Arroyo served up a two-run homer to Matt Adams in the first inning, the only offense the Redbirds would need. They also tacked on single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Arroyo dropped to 4-3 on the season as he allowed all five runs in seven innings of work. A.J. Pollock provided a defensive highlight with a tremendous running catch in the sixth inning. Chris Owings hit in the two hole while Cliff Pennington got the start at second in place of the injured Aaron Hill. The loss drops the D’backs to 18-29 on the season.

The teams go at it again this evening in St. Louis with first pitch set for 5:10 PM MST. Brandon McCarthy gets the ball for Arizona while the Cards counter with Michael Wacha.
