The Arizona Diamondbacks announced that Didi Gregorius has been called up from Triple A Reno as Cliff Pennington goes on the 15 day disabled list. Pennington was diagnosed with a sprained ligament on his left thumb according to Steve Gilbert at mlb.com. He was originally hurt on May 27th while making a tag on Everth Cabrera of the San Diego Padres.
Gregorius was shining with the Aces while splitting time between second base and shortstop. He had three home runs and 25 RBI’s at the time of his recall with a slash line of .310/.389/.447. Didi was tied for second in the Pacific Coast League with 42 runs scored and was third in hits with 70. The biggest knock on him has been a subpar offensive game which, even taking into account the hitter-friendly atmosphere of the PCL, has been impressive in 2014.
