The powers of persuasion are very strong indeed. The Arizona Diamondbacks were able to sign first round pick Touki Toussaint, getting him to forgo his commitment to the University of Vanderbilt. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed as of yet. It is believed that Toussaint will begin in the Arizona Rookie League which began play Friday night.
The 17-year old Toussaint was rated as the country’s third best overall pitching prospect according to Baseball America. The Coral Springs Christian Academy graduate was ranked as BA’s eight-best overall prospect heading into the 2014 Draft. Toussaint’s selection marks the third time in four seasons that the D’backs have used their first round pick on a pitcher. Trevor Bauer in 2011 and Braden Shipley in 2013 were both drafted out of college. Toussaint spent most of the first six years of his life in Haiti and did not learn baseball until almost middle school.
We wish the best for Touki Toussaint as he embarks on his professional baseball career.
