When the Arizona Diamondbacks drafted Braden Shipley in the first round of last year’s draft, they knew he would be something special one day, and so far he has just confirmed their beliefs in the lower levels of the minor leagues. Over the course of two minor league seasons, he has gone 5-6 with a 3.97 era and has quickly become one of the organizations top pitching prospects right behind Archie Bradley.
This season in 12 starts with Single-A South Bend, and High-A Visalia, Shipley is 5-3 with a 3.41 era. He has allowed 67 hits and 21 walks in 71.1 innings of work. As a result of his efforts, he has been named to the USA Roster for the 2014 SiriusXM Futures Game which will take place on July 13th at Target Field, the site of the 2014 MLB All-Star Game.
One Note: Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt has increased his lead over Adrian Gonzalez in the latest N.L All Star Voting update. If he stays ahead of the Dodgers 1B, he would become only the second Dbacks player ever to start the All Star Game. Goldschmidt deserves it, having another great season at the plate and in the field. He is near the top in all the major hitting categories in the N.L. However, Goldschmidt doesn’t see himself as a Derby participant so dont expect to see Goldy in the Home Run Derby any time soon.
