The Arizona Diamondbacks continued their roster shuffle by once again calling up infielder Nick Evans from Triple A Reno. Evans was designated for assignment earlier this month when the D’backs claimed Jordan Pacheco off waivers from the Colorado Rockies. This time, Evans takes the place of Zeke Spruill who was sent to Reno after being called up on Tuesday to take the place of Pacheco who is now on the 15-day disabled list. Everyone follow?
Evans had one hit, a home run, in 11 at-bats earlier this season for Arizona. He also struck out seven times. The 28-year old Evans was brought up as insurance for Paul Goldschmidt, who is struggling mightily at the moment with only one hit in his last 25 plate appearances. Upon re-joining Reno, Evans hit .500 (13 for 26) in seven games. In his 2014 games for the Aces, he has a line of .340/.408/.617 with 12 home runs and 48 RBI’s. Perhaps the righty-swinging Evans will get the start tonight as the San Diego Padres will be sending left-handed Eric Stults to the mound.
Spruill’s one appearance came Wednesday night against the Cleveland Indians when he threw four innings of relief, giving up two runs. With the way this season has unfolded, Spruill should not unpack his suitcase.
