The Diamondbacks ended their nine day road trip losing two out of three to the hot Atlanta Braves who are competing in a tough N.L East division with the Washington Nationals. This series was really on the back burner to the trade deadline and the All Star Game. Here is a recap of the series against the Braves at Turner Field:
Game 1: Dbacks-2 Braves-5
The Braves have been hot over the past week and they had Ervin Santana on the mound for game 1 who in 14 and a third innings owns a 1.26 era against the Dbacks. That was not a good combination for Arizona coming in, and it didn’t turn out well. Santana pitched a gem and it was enough to beat the Snakes 5-2 in front of a Independence Day crowd of 48,000 plus at Turner Field. The loss dropped the Dbacks to a season worst 16 games under .500. Dbacks starter Josh Collmenter allowed two first inning runs and now owns a 6.oo era in the first inning this season. Aside from a 10-2 win against the Pirates the bats have been silent recently.
Game 2: Dbacks-4 Braves-10
The Dbacks coughed up an early lead as starter Mike Bolsinger struggled and the Braves won the series winning 10-4 in game two. In three and two thirds innings, he allowed 10 hits and 7 runs five of those earned. The offense hadn’t been supporting Bolsinger so when they gave him three early runs in the first he faltered and the offense couldn’t keep up.
Game 3: Dbacks-3 Braves-1
The Braves win streak ended at 9 games and it was all because of Wade Miley. Miley was masterful for his second start in a row suggesting that maybe he is back. Wade only allowed one run in 6 and two thirds innings. He commanded the zone and threw his pitches where he wanted to. All he needed was a Paul Goldschmidt two run homer off the left field foul pole his 16th. For the second straight series the Dbacks won the finale avoiding a sweep.
