The Arizona Diamondbacks made yet another roster move today. I have lost count of how many they have made this season, and I’m sure more are coming. Dbacks General Manager Kevin Towers announced today that the Snakes have recalled right handed pitcher Bo Schultz today, and sent down OF Alfredo Marte to Reno. This announcement came directly from Towers office.
Shultz, 28, hasn’t made an appearance in the majors since he pitched a scoreless inning against the Dodgers in Sydney when rosters were expanded. He was optioned back to Reno on March 29, and had been there since.
In 21 starts with the Aces this season he is 8-7 with a 5.75 era. That isn’t very good, but there is a reason for his short term callup. The Dbacks gassed their bullpen last night in a 15 inning victory over the Reds, and most of the relievers that pitched last night will be not available, expect for Ziegler of course. Schultz knowing Gibson, will probably start tonight. He will wear no.58 tonight.
Meanwhile, Marte was optioned to Reno for the third time. In two stints for the Diamondbacks, he hit .258 in 31 at bats over 16 games with one home run, three doubles, and seven RBI’s. He recently slugged a pinch hit grand slam on July 25th against the Phillies. Marte has hit really well in the minors this season, but has struggled to hit against major league pitching. Arizona’s 40 man roster remains at 37 after today’s moves.
One Note: Daniel Hudson and A.J Pollack took important steps toward returning to the team today. Hudson threw a live BP sesssion to Pollack at Salt River Fields today. Here is a video from the @Dbacks on twitter:
