On Friday night, Aaron Blair took the mound for his fourth start for the Double A Mobile BayBears. Once again, he delivered a good performance by tossing five innings of one run ball as Mobile defeated the Tennessee Smokies by a score of 8-1.
Blair, the D’backs’ #4 prospect according to mlb.com, allowed five hits and three walks while striking out three. He threw a total of 85 pitches, 49 of them for strikes. It is important to keep an eye on the walks as he as issued six of them over his last two games, a total of 9 2/3 innings. Nevertheless, Blair continues to impress as he is now 3-1 with a 3.09 ERA in four starts for the BayBears.
Between three levels of Minor League ball in 2014, Blair has thrown a total of 131 1/3 innings. Last year, his first as a professional, he pitched a total of 48 2/3 innings after throwing 82 innings in his last year at Marshall University. I know the D’backs have promoted rookies Chase Anderson and Andrew Chafin but it would be surprising if Blair joins them in Arizona before the season ends.
