Jake Lamb hasn’t been in Mobile, Alabama for a while but that doesn’t mean he is not making news there. The third baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks was named the Southern League MVP for the 2014 season. Lamb starred for the Double A Mobile BayBears until being promoted to Triple A Reno at the end of July before being called up a week later to the D’backs.
Although Lamb has not played for the BayBears in over a month, his name is still at the top of many offensive categories. He ranks first in batting average at .318 and is second in RBI’s with 79. He is currently in second place in two other categories: on base percentage at .399, slugging percentage at .551. Lamb also places third in extra base hits with 79 and doubles with 35. He was named Southern League Player of the Week for the games played June 8th through June 14th. This is the second time a player from Mobile via the D’backs has won league MVP honors. Paul Goldschmidt was the first in 2011.
Congratulations to Jake Lamb as he finishes this special season in the Major Leagues.
