This past Saturday, Aaron Blair made his final regular season start for the Mobile BayBears. The Double A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks begin the playoffs on Thursday against the Jacksonville Suns, an affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Coincidentally, this final outing for Blair was against the Suns.
It was a mixed night for the big right-hander. Blair managed to go five innings and allow no runs and only two hits. He did strike out seven but his six walks is what made this start so shaky. The six walks were the most allowed in a start by Blair this season. Of course, his offense did him no favors as the BayBears were shut out by a score of 1-0. At the plate, Blair did get one of Mobile’s three hits. He ended his regular season at Double A with a record of 4-1 and an outstanding ERA of 1.94. In eight games started covering 46 1/3 innings, he allowed only 30 hits and 16 walks while striking out 46.
It appears Blair will get the ball on Thursday as Mobile goes for their second Southern League Championship in three years. No word as of yet if Arizona will call up him up once the playoffs end.
