How do you like this news as you wake up? According to Nick Piecoro at azcentral.com, the Arizona Diamondbacks will announce later this morning that General Manager Kevin Towers has been relieved of his duties.
Towers hasn’t been the most popular guy over the past couple of years, with the trading of players such as Justin Upton, Jarrod Parker and Tyler Skaggs, erasing the goodwill the team received when it surprisingly won the 2011 National League West title. Ever since the D’backs hired Tony LaRussa as the team’s Chief Baseball Officer in May, there has been rampant speculation about the security of Towers’ position.
With less than a month left in the season, speculation will now focus on the job security of manager Kirk Gibson. Check back with us later for more on the Kevin Towers dismissal.
