Pitchers and catchers report in a couple of weeks in Scottsdale. As we all wait for that to happen, I thought it would be interesting to think about who you thought was the best third baseman in Arizona Diamondbacks history? John Gambadoro and Dave Burns from Sports 620 KTAR put up their own fantasy rosters today, but I want to throw it out to you to decide position by position, now tackling the third base position.

The 2009 season for the Arizona Diamondbacks was anything but something to write home about. The first base position was no exception. In 2009, it was a position that was shared by a few players. Tony Clark had a crack, he failed to produce offensively and even made some really bad defensive pplays that cost the Dbacks some games. Conor Jackson only played 30 games before falling ill to Valley Fever. Mark Reynolds had to be converted over from third base to share the position with now former Dback Chad Tracy.

Going into 2010, it appears to be a different story. The arrival of free agent Adam Laroche not only solidifies a player at the position, it also adds a bat with some pop that hits for average. A surprising pick up to say the least, only because it was widly thought the Dbacks would not be able to afford him. Picking Laroche up also allows the Dbacks to move Jackson to left-field. Reynolds will back up depending on the situation.

First base should see more production in 2010. Then again, after having Tony Clark there last year, putting Abe Vigoda at first base might produce more results.
