I knew this series would bring out a sensitive side of me because I really just don’t like the New York Yankees. It’s nothing they did or didn’t do. It’s just I feel so EHH about the team. I realize that is a terrible word to describe emotions but it’s true.

First of all, the Arizona Diamondbacks are now 0-4 when my MLB.TV coverage is choppy and slow on my computer. Are the losses related to the coverage? I think so. About an hour ago, Arizona dropped game one of a three game set with the Yankees by a score of 4-2 in front of close to 35,000 in the Bronx. Aside from A.J. Pollock having a nice night offensively, there was really nothing to write home about. There seemed to be a weird feeling in the air in New York. I can’t really explain it, but it just felt strange.

There was some miscommunication in this game, but at least somebody caught it.This pretty much explains the night in NY.

There just was not a lot of life coming from Arizona tonight. I think I need another hand to count the number of times a player popped out to an infielder. The Yankees deserved to win this game because although Brandon McCarthy had a fairly good outing, the Robinson Cano HR left the team in shambles and they went out with a whimper. Maybe I’ve become snooty and expect this team to come back in games like they did in Milwaukee, but in reality, that won’t happen. I think I will be re-living the Eric Hinske pinch-hit home run the entire season. It’s just one game but inter league play is a fun time and I like W’s! The vibe was just off tonight. Maybe I’m the only one that felt it but whatever it was, I didn’t like it.

The Diamondbacks dropped to 8-5 on the season and are 1-6 vs the Yanks in New York. Wade Miley goes tomorrow against C.C. Sabathia. I say we regroup, focus in, and grab a win tomorrow. On a somewhat related side note, I have loved watching Gerardo Parra play every day. He has really improved defensively and it will be interesting to see what happens with him come 4-5 weeks from now.

Let’s face it, 2012 seemed a little uneventful for Arizona as far as interleague play was concerned. No disrespect, but I don’t think D’backs fans enjoy watching their team battle the Mariners and Royals. Things look to be a little different in 2013 from a fan’s perspective on interleague play.

The Snakes will get their first bite of the American League at the new Yankee Stadium against New York on April 16-18. This will be the D’backs first trip to the Bronx since the renovation of Yankee Stadium. For obvious reasons, fans should enjoy watching these games because whether you like them or not, the Yankees are a legendary franchise in Major League Baseballd.

Things get a bit strange for the D’backs near the end of May. Arizona will host a doubleheader at Chase Field against Texas on May 27th. It will be the second doubleheader in D’backs franchise history. On May 29, the Diamondbacks travel to Arlington to finish its’ series against the Josh Hamilton-less Rangers. This is the first time I have seen a split interleague series. Not to mention, it consists of a doubleheader. Weird!

Another year of NL vs. AL looks to be a fun one for Arizona

Arizona will play Tampa Bay on the road on July 30-31, then battle the Rays at Chase Field on August 6-7. a series against Tampa is not as enticing as it had been in years past, but nevertheless, it is a fun match up of the last two expansion teams added to Major League Baseball. Another matchup against a legendary franchise awaits as Arizona as they travels to “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark,” Fenway Paawk (said with Boston accent) to take on the Red Sox in early August. No matter what the standings show, baseball fans love when they get to watch their teams play like Boston and New York.

The Orioles fly to Phoenix on August 12-14 for a three-game set with Arizona which by the looks of how Baltimore has played recently, should be an awesome series to see. Lots of young talent will be on hand for both teams.

The MLB schedulers saved the best match-up for the D’backs for last. On September 2-4, the Diamondbacks will host the new-look Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays bring with them high expectations from north of the border for the 2013 season. Most have said that Toronto can (and probably should) win the AL East. The Jays were involved in a blockbuster deal earlier in the off season and this is the chance to see them up close and personal at Chase Field.

Overall, this should be a fun year of interleague play for Arizona. From a fan’s perspective, they get to see some great teams and from a baseball perspective, the games should be really competitive and entertaining.

33 days until spring training!

Among those that consider themselves baseball’s purist, interleague play is a dirty word. To put it simply, they don’t like it. Among others, interleague play is the next best thing since sliced bread. Some can’t get enough of it. A lot of people in Arizona love the fact the New York Yankees are coming in June. That’s because their team was so great and New York such a great place, they left it to come here.

This weekend the Arizona Diamondbacks are hosting the Toronto Blue Jays. The series doesn’t scream come watch. Especially the way the Dbacks have played so far this season, there may be better things to do with your time. The Dbacks come in riding a two-game winning streak, so buyer beware. They haven’t won more than two in a row all season.

It the Blue Jays, but it gives us a chance to see a team we aren’t used to seeing. I see both sides of the argument on interleague play. I say it’s good because it does put more fans in the seats (at least that’s part of MLB’s intent in having interleague play). It gives you a look at a fresh opponent. However, what it also does is, to an extent, ruin the mystique of the World Series. The World Series used to be the only time you would see an AL opponent outside of spring training. However, don’t look for a Dbacks-Blue Jays World Series. The only think you might be looking for is the remote after the sixth inning when the bullpen takes over.

Regardless of how you fell about interleague, it’s here and here to stay. So, embrace it.

Scott Allen
