Trevor Bauer picked up his first major league victory, allowing only two hits over six scoreless innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks (42-43) beat the Los Angeles Dodgers (47-40) 7-1 on Sunday afternoon.

For the first time during the four game series, the D-backs were able to get on the board first on Sunday afternoon, when Justin Upton tripled to right field in the bottom of the first, scoring Willie Bloomquist, and putting the snakes up 1-0. After Jason Kubel struck out, Paul Goldschmidt would plate Upton on an RBI double to right field.

Paul Goldschmidt had four RBIs in Sunday's victory over Los Angeles.
The D-backs would remain in check until the bottom of the fifth inning, with Upton and Kubel on base, Goldschmidt homered to left center field, putting the D-backs up 5-0.

Miguel Montero would add a couple more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single to center field, extending Arizona’s lead to 7-0.

Juan Uribe would plate a run in the top of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly to right field, cutting the lead to 7-1.

Unfortunately for the Dodger, Arizona rookie phenom Trevor Bauer brought his much anticipated “A” game on Sunday afternoon. In his third career start, Bauer limited the Dodger offense to only two hits over six scoreless innings. This was the type of outing that Arizona was expecting to get from Bauer after calling him up from Reno a couple weeks ago. Bauer did a good job of pounding the strike zone, and bouncing back from a rough outing against San Diego earlier in the week.

With the victory, the D-backs were able to cut the Dodgers grasp on the NL West division lead to only four games above Arizona. The team will have a few days off for the All-Star break, giving the team a chance to relax, spend time with family and recharge for a stretch run for the division in the second half of the season.

The Colorado Rockies signed Troy Tulowitzki to a $134 million extension. The Dodgers reportedly are going to sign away Juan Uribe from the San Francisco Giants. Today, the Dodgers dealt Ryan Theriot to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Arizona Diamondbacks? Nothing, at least this week.

Maybe the NL West isn't as bad as everyone said it was. From top to (almost) bottom, the division was competitive all season long. Three of the five teams were in contention until the last week and a half and two of the teams were in the race until the last day of the season.

Now, the San Francisco Giants are in the 2010 World Series. How about them apples?

Maybe there was something to the Arizona Diamondbacks losing 13 of 18 this season to the pitching-heavy Giants? Ok, maybe the Diamondbacks just weren't that great either, but it is clear that the Giants domination in the regular season wasn't just because they got to play the Dbacks 18 times. They have game. Huge game.
