Houston would get on on the scoreboard first off of a solo home run by Justin Maxwell in the top of the second inning, putting the Astros up 1-0.

The snakes would respond in the bottom half of the inning when Jason Kubel hit a solo home run to right field, tying the game up at 1-1. It was Kubel’s fourth home run in the past two days.

The Astros would tack on another run in the top of the sixth inning when Houston third baseman Chris Johnson doubled to dep left-center field, scoring first baseman Scott Moore, and putting Houston up 2-1.

Arizona would explode in the bottom of the inning for seven runs to blow the game wide open. Miguel Montero would start the scoring off by grounding into a fielder’s choice to second, scoring Stephen Drew and Aaron Hill on a throwing error by the shortstop, and putting Arizona on top 3-2. Chris Young  would follow with a three-run home run to left-center, blowing the game wide open with a score of 6-2. Later on in the inning, Gerardo Parra singled to left field, scoring Ryan Roberts and Ryan Wheeler and extending the lead to 8-2.

That would be plenty of offense for Arizona starter Josh Collmenter, who gave up seven hits and only two runs over six strong innings. The bullpen would come in to provide three scoreless innings of relief on the evening.

With the win, the Diamondbacks completed the sweep of the Astros, and pulled the squad within one game of the .500 mark. Ian Kennedy will take the mound tomorrow evening as the Diamondbacks open a three-game series against the visiting Colorado Rockies.
