The trading merry-go-round continues as we near the deadline at 1pm Arizona time. Here is what we know so far:

Chad Qualls is gone. He has been traded to the Tampa Rays. The hard part of getting rid of Qualls was his salary. Many teams were looking for the Dbacks to pay his salary. Tampa has agreed to pay his salary for the rest of the season. Personally I think he’s pitched worth a bag of peanuts. Maybe a change of scenery will do him well.

Chris Snyder is gone. He was traded after league approval, to the Pittsburgh Pirates. D.J. Carrasco, Bobby Crosby, and Ryan Church are the players the Dbacks will get in return.

No word this morning on movement of Kelly Johnson. Rumors were hot late last night they were looking at a deal with the Cubs, but nothing has come to fruition on that, at least not yet. I would not be surprised to see the Dbacks hold on to him. If they do, hopefully they can get him signed to a new contract in the off-season.

Stay tuned.

Give the Arizona Diamondbacks some credit, at least from the pitching end of things. They went into Tampa and defeated the Tampa Rays two out of three this weekend.

While I was away camping with my family, the Dbacks managed a no hitter from Edwin Jackson on Friday night. They squandered an opportunity to win on Saturday, and defeated Tampa on Sunday with a two-run homer from Gerardo Parra.

Not much offense to talk about on either end, but for Arizona’s part, one run Friday and two on Sunday were all they needed and both came via long ball.

As for Jackson, he pitched a no-hitter on Friday, despite eight walks, seven of them in the first three innings. He calmed down after loading the bases with no outs in the third, but still managed to get away without anyone scoring.

On Sunday, Parra’s homer was all they needed.

A win is a win. I’m a little disappointed in the offense. However Tampa has to be more disappointed with theirs. Even though they walked 26 times in the series, they could only muster seven hits. The number of walks the Arizona pitching, especially from the recent starts by Jackson, Ian Kennedy, and Rodrigo Lopez, is quite alarming. Kennedy walked nine alone in 5.1 innings on Saturday, a game in which Tampa only got five hits in a 5-3 win.

Now it is off to St. Louis. The hits just keep on coming.
