D’backs Close to Singing Xavier Nady, Seriously

By Scott Allen

Finally, a singing I can excited about.  Xavier Nady is about to become an Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder.  Wait, is this 2006, 2007, or even 2008?  Oh wait, no, this is 2010.  I take back what I said, well at least temper my excitement a little bit.

After missing most of 2009, Nady played for the Chicago Cubs in 2010, hitting .256, 6 HR, 33 RBI.  His career best was in 2008 when he hit .305, 25 HR and 97 RBI between stops with the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees.  The Yankees picked him up in a trade deadline deal, believing he was the next best pickup.  Injuries derailed his time in New York though.

Many of us remember him not really ever reaching his potential in San Diego as a Padres outfielder.  I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do.  Yet one more guy that general manager Kevin Towers is very familiar with.  I'm ok with Towers surrounding himself with players he knows a lot about.  We could never say that about Josh Byrnes.
