Down on The Farm

By Scott Allen

Here is the first look this season at what is happening down on the farm for the Arizona Diamondbacks.  There is a lot of great talent performing well.  It will be interesting to see if which of the top performers get promoted this season.

Here are some notables in AAA and AA

Reno (AAA):

Wily Mo Pena - .352 avg, .716 slugging, 17 HR, 49 RBI - not sure how much longer the Dbacks can keep this beast in Reno.  I know the Dbacks are hot, but Pena could be a valuable addition to the bench.

Brandon Allen - .298, 7 HR, 35 RBI - he could be the victim of a numbers game.  With Juan Miranda and Xavier Nady performing well in Arizona, Allen appears to be good trade bait should the Dbacks wish to be a player at the trade deadline.

Barry Enright - 2-2, 3.30 ERA, 0.90 WHIP - started the season in Arizona but has been decent in Reno.  He could find his way back soon if anyone here struggles anytime soon.  I expect to see him back before the season is over.

Mobile BayBears (AA):

Paul Goldschmidt - .330 avg, 17 HR, 48 RBI, 1.121 OPS - also a first baseman, it will be tough to see him held down in Mobile for much longer, but will he move to Reno or Phoenix?  As I mentioned before, a logjam at first exists here.  I would love to see what he could do up here though.

Jarrod Parker - 4-4, 5.25 ERA - not producing major league numbers yet.  People are excited to see him do his thing here, but I am doubtful it will be anywhere but Mobile this season for Parker.
