Dbacks Almost Blow Big Lead, Defeat Marlins 12-9

By Scott Allen
By the time the 4th inning was over, Ryan Roberts and Kelly Johnson had already batted four times each. They had a 9-0 lead after 3 innings. They were up 12-4 after 4 innings. Of course starter Zach Duke couldn't get his grandma out in the 5th inning and by the time he left with 2 outs in the 5th, he had already surrendered more hits that the Arizona Diamondbacks had on offense.  Eventually they held on for a 12-9 victory to win 3 of 4 in Miami against the Florida Marlins.

The way this game started, it was easy to think the Dbacks would score at least 15, maybe 20.  Unfortunately the bullpen made it as interested as Duke did at times.  Brian Shaw, who for some reason with a 5.59 ERA in AAA Reno, has a job with the Dbacks, gave up 2 runs without recording an out.  Esmerling Vasquez allowed the hit that charged the runs to Shaw.  He can stay on suspension as far as I'm concerned.  No way J.J Putz should have entered this game.

A win is a win though, so I'm happy with that.  Now it's time to come home for a huge series against the San Francisco Giants starting tomorrow night at Chase Field.
