Dbacks Take Field for Final Interleague Game of Season

By Scott Allen

If the Arizona Diamondbacks defeat the Oakland A’s today, it will give them 11 interleague wins in 2011, most in MLB.  A win will give them an 11-7 overall record against the AL.  Two All-Stars, well one All-Star and a snubbed All-Star face each other on the mound this afternoon as Ian Kennedy takes to the bump against Gio Gonzalez.  Kennedy can go out today and prove he belongs on the All-Star team.

Kennedy, who was left off the NL Roster earlier in the day, is 8-2 with a 3.01 ERA.  Gonzalez, is 7-5 with a 2.38 ERA.  He deserved his AL Roster spot.  Anyone who has 5 losses with a 2.38 ERA means he is pitching for a team that can’t score runs.

The A’s scored 5 runs on Friday night and 2 last night, vying for more before David Hernandez shut things down in the 9th.  The Dbacks have a chance to gain a full game on the San Francisco Giants, as they are about to lose to the Detroit Tigers.  The A’s meanwhile will continue to try to tread water on a very competitive AL West from top to bottom.
