Collmenter Pitches Great, Offense Lets Him Down

By Scott Allen

Josh Collmenter showed up for today’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers and shut them out for 6 innings, only giving up 3 hits, however, the bullpen could not secure a 1-0 lead after Collmenter left the game having thrown 94 pitches on the day.  The Brewers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 thanks to a Casey McGehee pinch hit three run homer in the 7th inning.

It was the type of pitching we saw from Collmenter early on.  Unfortunately for the Dbacks, the offense stayed at the hotel.  Either that, or it was already headed off to St. Louis for some early batting practice because the Dbacks played like they missed batting practice today.

The offense won’t always be there, we all know that, however on a day when Collmenter was pitching a gem, it was sorely needed.  The only offense today was a first inning HR by Kelly Johnson.  After that, Brewers pitcher Yovanni Gallardo shut them down.
