Arizona Diamondbacks in Tie for First Place

By Scott Allen

The Arizona Diamondbacks are back int a tie for first place as they defeated the San Francisco Giants 6-1 Tuesday night at AT&T Park.  All started by Paul Goldschmidt‘s two-run homer and added on with a two-run homer by Justin Upton and a couple of insurance runs late, the Dbacks have now taken the first two games of the series.

Giants starter Tim Lincecum pitched alright for the most part, but his pitch count took a beating early and knocked him out of the game after seven innings.  After throwing 64 pitches after three innings, it appeared he might not go long, but the Dbacks gave him a couple of quick innings.

As for Dbacks starter Daniel Hudson?  He was money.  Again.  He won his 11th game of the season, going 8 innings, only giving up 1 run on 6 hits.  It was a nice bounce-back after the last couple of outings.

Again, it wasn’t an offensive fest, but it was enough to win.  What it really boiled down to tonight was timely hitting and getting the big hits with runners on base.  It makes all the difference in the world.  Celebrate this for about 10 seconds because it is a quick turn around for game three of the series tomorrow at 12:30.  in case you haven’t heard, the game will be on Fox Sports Arizona.
