Diamondbacks News

Around the NL West

By Scott Allen

We know about the struggles going on in the race for first in the NL West, however, here is a look at everything else going on news wise with the division.  This appears it will be a two-team race however with the recent struggles of the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants, anything is possible.  We know how each of those teams have fared the past few nights.  Let’s take a look at what is going on with the other three teams in the division lately.

Los Angeles Dodgers – the team has agreed to a bankruptcy plan with Major League Baseball.  That is good news.  As much as I hate the Dodgers, the NL West and MLB need them to continue to be viable.  Also, shortstop Dee Gordon was injured on Saturday night and had to leave the game.  He injured his arm and is listed day to day.

San Diego Padres – the Padres probably wish they could play against the Pittsburgh Pirates everyday.  They have had a field day with the reeling NL Central team the past two nights, outscoring the Bucs 28-7.  Glad to know they brought along the San Diego Chargers to help them out with the football scores.

Colorado Rockies – the Rockies have had their share of injury issues like everyone else, but nothing like what happened to them on Friday night at Coors Field against the Washington Nationals when starting pitcher Juan Nicasio was struck by a line drive right in the neck.  he ended up breaking his neck and is out for the season.  First and foremost, a prayer for a speedy recovery for him.  If you saw the play, you know just how scary it was.  He is lucky to still be alive much less still have a chance to pitch again someday, maybe as soon as spring training.
