Dbacks Win 5th in a Row, Beat Padres 3-1

By Scott Allen

Another low scoring affair on Saturday night at Chase Field, but that’s what you have good pitching for and the Arizona Diamondbacks had just that again as they defeated the San Diego Padres 3-1.  Joe Saunders pitched a very nice game, one that saw David Hernandez suffer an ankle contusion and J.J. Putz close it up once again.

The offense all came from the bat of Chris Young.  Although he hasn’t appeared to come out of his second-half slump entirely yet, he did hit another big home run that plated two runs.  It was all the Dbacks needed to beat the Padres for the second night in a row.

The Padres Aaron Harang lost for the first time on the road this season.  He too pitched very well but the one mistake to Young cost him and the Padres a series win.  The two teams will wrap things up tomorrow at 1:10pm, however they will be back in 11 days for another four game series at Chase Field.  The win keeps the San Francisco Giants three back of the Dbacks as they defeated the Houston Astros 2-1 on Saturday evening.
