Dbacks Roster Review: Chris Young

By Scott Allen

With now just 30 games left in the regular season, we are in the home stretch, the final quarter of the 2011 season. It is time to review the current Arizona Diamondbacks roster to look at what they’ve accomplished, where they are now, and what they can provide, if anything, in the final few weeks of the National League West pennant race. Next up: Chris Young

What he’s accomplished: Was hot early and continued his comeback from a miserable 2009 up until the All-Star break.  Unfortunately he has struggled mightily since then.  He seems to be breaking out of his slump though over the past week.

What he’s doing now: He’s hitting .236 with 19 HR, 63 RBI.  He’s hit a couple of big home runs against San Diego and Washington over the past several days.  It is nice to see.  Plus he doesn’t seem to be pressing as he is willing to take a walk on a frequent basis.

What he means to the Dbacks run to the pennant: Still needs to be in the mix, especially since he means so much defensively in center field.  Yes he’s hitting .236.  His .236 though is different than a .236 for say like Sean Burroughs though.  CY can produce power numbers, draw walks, and play great defense.  He’s important to the Dbacks run down the stretch.
