Collmenter Headed For Rotation

By J. Levi Burnfin

Josh Collmenter will begin the season in the Diamondbacks starting rotation according to’s Jack Magruder who reported it on twitter here.

There were some rumblings coming out of spring training that uber-prospect Trevor Bauer’s magnificent spring may win him a spot in the rotation over Collmenter. However, it looks like, at least for now, Collmenter will start and Bauer will begin the year in the minors.

Collmenter’s probably destined for the bullpen at some point this year given his unorthodox delivery but lack of quality pitches makes for a pitcher that can fool hitters once through the lineup but gets whacked after a few innings. Collmenter’s ERA ballooned to 4.42 in his last 18 games after a fantastic April and May.

Meanwhile, Bauer was considered the most ready starting pitcher prospect in last year’s amateur draft and has impressed during spring training with seven k’s and only one walk in seven innings.

I would bet that Bauer is in the Diamondbacks rotation by June with Collmenter being relegated to bullpen duties. And, frankly, it is the best thing for the D-backs because of Bauer’s incredible upside.
