Justin Upton Seeing a Specialist for Thumb

So much for the idea that Justin Upton’s jammed thumb wasn’t a big deal.

After appearing to heat up a little at the plate over the weekend, Upton apparently is still suffering discomfort in his thumb and will see a specialist according to Jack Magruder of Fox Sports Arizona.  According to Kirk Gibson, a trip to the DL is possibility.  While a long term injury to Upton would be devastating, a 15 day trip to the DL wouldn’t be the end of the world thanks to the depth in the outfield.  The addition of Jason Kubel and the presence of two starters from last season, Chris Young and Gerardo Parra, give the D-Backs plenty of depth to cover in the short term.

Upton is out of the lineup on Tuesday.
