By Noah Dougherty

Baseball fans will sure know who Wade Miley is now. The lefty was awarded the Rookie of the Month Award this afternoon for the month of April.

Miley began the season as the Dbacks long relief man and was very effective going 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA in 8 2/3 innings. Four of his innings came in relief of Josh Collmenter on opening weekend against the Giants when he hurled four shutout innings to earn the win as the offense came to life to battle back from a 6-0 deficit to win 7-6.

Following his relief appearance against the Braves and with Daniel Hudson being placed on the 15 day DL- Miley was given his first start of the year vs the Phillies.

He didn’t dissappoint throwing 6 shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing just two hits. In his next start against the Marlins, Miley threw 6 1/3 inning and again allowed zero runs on one hit. Miley took a no-hitter into the 6th inning when John Buck led off the frame with a double to left field.

Overall Miley finished April with a 3-0 record and impressive ERA of 1.29 allowing just 10 hits and striking out 15 over his 21 innings of work. Hitters are batting just .132 vs the lefty so far.

Miley next scheduled start is Friday night facing Dillon Gee of the Mets.

NOTE: Joe Saunders was nominated for Pitcher of the Month in April as well. He takes the hill for the Diamondbacks this afternoon against the Nationals.
