After Thursday’s Debacle, D-Backs Need a Dominating Home Stand

Did you hear that tap-tap sound emanating from Cincinnati yesterday?

Any idea of what it could be?

I’ll tell you: that was the first nail in the coffin for the 2012 Arizona Diamondbacks.

Now, they can kick that nail right out with a home sweep of the Houston Astros this weekend. The question is do you trust this D-Back team to do it? From getting swept by the Padres and Cubs to yesterday’s blown six run lead debacle, to outplaying the Reds this week, the only sure thing you can say about this team is that, well they are anything but a sure thing.

Thursday’s loss was a killer. I followed the game at work and once I saw the score get to 6-0, I figured, wow, 3 out of 4 in Cincy puts them right back in this going home to play the lowly Astros. Even at 6-3, I was confident the Snakes would slither out of town with the win. When it got to 6-6 and then 7-6 it was like the air going out of a balloon. When I came out of a meeting after 4PM and saw the final score, my first thought was that this could be the beginning of the end. Then again, this team is resilient so, like with Wednesday’s prediction don’t be surprised if the D-Backs start with a quick three runs in the first inning.

I agree with fellow Venomstrikes writer Nicholas Valenzuela.  I don’t why, with two Wild Card spots, the D-Backs are automatically labeled as sellers as the trade deadline nears. There are 70 games left, plenty of time to make up a six or seven game deficit. However, if the D-Backs turn in a mediocre 10 game home stand, that tap-tap will turn into a boom-boom.
