Wade Miley was the second young lefty to have a dominant outing for the Arizona Diamondbacks as the snakes took game two of the doubleheader 3-0 over the Miami Marlins.
Arizona got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when Paul Goldschmidt singled to right field to score A.J. Pollack and put the D-backs on top 1-0.
Chris Johnson would add to the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single to right field to score Aaron Hill and extend the lead to 2-0. Arizona would add another run when Paul Goldschmidt scored on a past ball by Miami catcher Rob Brantly.
Arizona wouldn’t need anymore offense on the evening as Wade Miley brought his A-game, allowing only four hits and no runs through eight innings pitched. JJ Putz would come into the game in the ninth to earn his second save of the day, and his 26th of the season.
With the victory, Miley earned his 14th win of the season to lead all Arizona pitchers. He also lowered his season ERA to 2.80 to lead all rookie qualifying pitchers in that category.
The Diamondbacks have a day off on Thursday before opening up a three-game series on Friday against the visiting San Diego Padres.
