Kennedy Beats Kershaw in Duel

By Nicholas Valenzuela

Ian Kennedy showed why he was a 20-game winner a year ago when he got the better half of Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw when the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 in Arizona last night.

The only source of offense on the evening came in the bottom of the seventh inning when Miguel Montero doubled to deep right field to score Paul Goldschmidt to give Arizona their lone run on the evening.

Arizona was only able to generate four hits and one run on the evening, as Los Angeles starter and former Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw allowed only three hits and one run over seven strong innings pitched.

Unfortunately Mr. Kershaw was the recipient of no run support as his counterpart in Ian Kennedy was just as impressive on the evening, allowing only four hits and no runs while striking out six batters through 7.1 innings pitched. Brad Ziegler came in to finish the seventh inning while David Hernandez shut the door in the ninth for his third save of the evening. With the victory, Kennedy picked up his 13th victory of the season.
