Arizona Falls Short 6-5

The Arizona Diamondbacks weren’t able to complete a late-game comeback and fell short of the visiting San Diego Padres 6-5 on Thursday afternoon in Phoenix.

Jesus Guzman got the scoring started for the Pads in the top of the first inning with a three-run home run to deep left-center field to score Chase Headley and Yasmani Grandal, putting San Diego on top 3-0.

Arizona was able to get one run back in the bottom half of the inning off of a solo home run by Aaron hill, cutting the Padres lead to 3-1.

San Diego would continue their offensive strike in the top of the next inning when Logan Forsythe doubled to deep center field to score Clayton Richard and add the Padres’ fourth run.

Chris Johnson added an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Justin Upton and cut the lead to 4-2.

The Padres would add a couple more runs in the top of the sixth inning off a Chris Denorfia RBI double to right, followed by a Chase Headley RBI double to deep lef-center field to put the Pads on top 6-2.

The Diamondbacks would battle back in the bottom of the sixth inning with a Paul Goldschmidt RBI single to deep right field, followed by Chris Johnson’s second RBI single of the evening to cut the lead to 6-4.

Adam Eaton would blast a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to one run at 6-5. Unfortunately for Arizona, it wouldn’t be enough to overcome the San Diego lead.
