D-backs Rout Cubs 8-3

The Arizona Diamondbacks were able to put together some consistant offense and beat the visiting Chicago Cubs 8-3 in the first game of a three-game series in Phoenix.
The Diamondbacks got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first when AJ Polluck doubled to deep right-center field to score Adam Eaton and Arizona on top 1-0.
Arizona added it’s second run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cody Ransom slammed a solo home run to deep left field to extend the D-backs lead to 2-0.
Chicago would battle back in the top of the fifth inning when Dave Sappelt hit a two-run blast to left field to score David DeJesus and tie things up at 2-2.
Aaron Hill would break the tie in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double to deep left-center field to score Ian Kennedy and put the D-backs on top 3-2. Justin Upton would follow with a two-run home run to plate hill and extend Arizona’s lead to 5-2.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the D-backs would add three more runs off a throwing error by Chicago second baseman Darwin Barney, an RBI single by John McDonald, and an RBI infield single by Adam Eaton.
Arizona starter Ian Kennedy picked up his 15th win of the season by allowing three earned runs off four hits over 5.2 innings pitched.
Arizona will send Trevor Cahill to the mound tomorrow evening for game two of the three-game home series.
