The 25-year-old Upton has been the subject of numerous trade rumors throughout the off-season and this week’s latest rumor had the Diamondbacks trying to obtain two-time All-Star Starlin Castro in return for the mercurial outfielder.
According to ESPN.com, the Cubs balked at Castro being included in the deal and the talks concluded quickly. The 22-year old shortstop is seen as one of the cornerstones of the Cubs franchise and they are not looking to move him.
In addition, the feasibility of an Upton to Chicago trade did not look realistic as Upton has a limited no trade clause in his contract that includes the Cubs. Upton has already nixed a trade to Seattle this off-season using his limited no-trade clause. Toronto and Boston are the other two teams on his no-trade list
