One of the more popular players of the past couple of years is no longer with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Middle infielder Willie Bloomquist will be signing a two year contract with the Seattle Mariners as reported by Nick Piecoro at azcentral.com and Jon Heyman at CBS Sports. The deal is pending providing Bloomy passes a physical but there is no doubt that we will not see him in a D’back uniform in 2014.

I might point out that I incorrectly stated Bloomquist would return to Phoenix. Nevertheless, the team is deep and young at the second base/shortstop slot that Willie manned so ably. In his three year stint with the D’backs, he had a slash line of .289/.328/.368. Bloomy only played in 48 games in 2013 due to a variety of ailments but was very productive in his limited action banging out 44 hits in 139 at-bats.

We wish Willie Bloomquist nothing but the best as he returns to Seattle.
