Arizona Diamondbacks’ General Manager Kevin Towers declared that he wants to leave the Winter Meetings with a pitcher. While a trade for a starter is possible, it seems as though the GM has been talking to representatives of several free agents. Here are the names that have been linked to the D’backs over the past 48 hours or so.

Matt Garza: Jon Heyman at CBS Sports reported that the D’backs were in the mix for the 30 year old righty along with the Twins and Angels among others. Both Minnesota and LA have been busy grabbing pitchers with the Twins signing free agents Phil Hughes and Ricky Nolasco while the Angels just traded for Tyler Skaggs and Hector Santiago. There is no word on the other teams that have inquired on Garza meaning that perhaps Towers has an inside track.

Ervin Santana:  Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweeted that the D’backs met with the agents of the 31 year old Santana. The righty spent 2013 with the Kansas City Royals and had a solid year with a 9-10 record with a 3.24 ERA in 211 innings pitched. Santana has won 16 or more games three times in his career. If the D’backs sign him, it will cost the organization a first round pick.

Masahiro Tanaka: Mr. Rosenthal also reported on Twitter that the Japanese sensation is Towers’s number one priority at the moment. The D’backs are waiting on the new posting system to be ratified before making an offer. According to Nick Piecoro, Towers would rather pay a higher annual salary for pitchers rather than go four or five years on a contract. He would be willing to make an exception for Tanaka.

Do you think the D’backs will land one of these three men for their 2014 rotation and beyond?
