Gerald Laird Signed to Minor League Deal

By Chris Jackson

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed Gerald Laird to a Minor League deal, as first reported by Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Laird is a journeyman catcher who has been in the league since 2003, playing for the Rangers, Tigers, Cardinals, and Braves.

Laird’s highest game total came in 2009, when he played 135 for the Detroit Tigers. That year he hit .225 and drove in 33. Laird has a career slash of .244/.305/.353 with 38HR and 238RBI.

Gerald figures to be a backup to either Tuffy Gosewisch or Peter O’Brien, depending on who gets the starting job out of Spring Training.
