4. Giants: 2.4 WAR (#14)
Even though FanGraphs thinks that the Giants are better than the Diamondbacks at the SS position, I have to disagree with then, so I’m putting San Francisco below the Diamondbacks.
Simply put, I think that FanGraphs is a little to high on Brandon Crawford, and Joaquin Arias, and they are underestimating Chris Owings.
His value comes from playing premium defense at a premium position, and he showed that in last October’s Fall Classic. However even that has faded a little bit.
In 2013 he had a UZR/150 of 4.2. That dropped to 1.2 in 2014 despite logging more innings.
If your hoping for help on the offensive side from Crawford, than your going to be disappointed. He had a respectable wOBA of .309, and a wRC+ of 110, but he hit .246 with a .389 slugging percentage. His walk rate did increase in 2014.
