1. Padres: 3.0 WAR (#6)

He is back Diamondbacks fans! Justin Upton is back in the N.L. West with the Padres after being traded to San Diego from Atlanta as part of G.M. A.J Preller’s reconstruction of the friars outfield.

It made sense for the Braves to move on from him. They are going in a different direction, and Upton is in the final year of his contract, and will make $14.5 million last year.

Streamer thinks that his offensive production will decline. He is projected for a 124 wRC+, and a .778 OPS. He is projected to have a lower strikeout rate, and a higher walk rate, but Petco will probably hurt his production.

However, Upton hit 29 home runs last season, and considering how abysmal the Padres offense was last season, Upton is most certainly an upgrade, especially if San Diego is able to sign him long term.

Keep this in mind: he has a career .291 batting average, and a career .541 slugging percentage at Petco, so don’t be surprised if his offensive production remains the same.
