Two Under the Radar Names Standing Out: Danny Dorn and Socrates Brito
During spring training, there are always two or three players that stand out and make big contributions that you didn’t expect to. So far, first basemen Danny Dorn and outfielder Socrates Brito have been those players for the Diamondbacks.
So far this spring he is hitting .333/.429/.667 with four hits, one HR, and two RBI’s across 12 at bats. Dorn’s home run in the fourth was the first Dbacks home run of the spring, and it gave all the offense that Diamondbacks pitching would need the rest of the way.
Its going to be hard for him to make the big league roster with Paul Goldschmidt at first-base, but he could make the team as a member of the bench if he keeps producing at a high level. Another team could also try to snag him.
Before spring training started, one name that I knew I was going to keep my eye on was Socrates Brito. His tools are never going to wow anybody, but when you put his whole game together, he is very fun to watch. Every tool is considered to be above average, and his base-running skills are off the charts.
Last season he took it the next level at Visalia hitting .297 with a .767 OPS. He was signed by the Diamondbacks in April of 2010. Brito played all nine innings for the Diamondbacks during the Cactus League opener, which shows how much they value his talent.
Chip Hale talked about Brito with Dbacks.com
“He showed us something. He’s competing pretty well for a guy that’s played at the level he’s played at. He’s showed us a lot of maturity. His defense, offense, baserunning has been fantastic,” Hale said.
Keep an eye on these two players as the Cactus League season continues!
