What’s on Second?

To play on the sketch done by Abbott and Costello, the Dbacks have a predicament on who will play second base. Actually, who’s on first, and we all know that’s Paul Goldschmidt. (Seriously, check out the classic). Whether it’s Aaron Hill or Chris Owings, the lineup hasn’t featured an consistent 2nd baseman all season.

At the start of the season, Nick Ahmed and Owings were given the shortstop and second base positions. Unfortunately for both of them, they have been woefully insufficient at the plate. It appears that Hill is finally taking advantage and is making a bid at a starting job. Here are the offensive numbers since May 27.

  • Aaron Hill– 10/20 (.500), 2 HR, 6 RBI, 4 R
  • Nick Ahmed– 4/18 (.222), 3 R
  • Chris Owings– 3/25 (.120) 1 R
  • Cliff Pennington– 3/11 (.272), 1 R

If Hill is able to maintain his hit hitting, the second baseman job may soon be his again. Cliff Pennington has jumped right back to mix due to Owings and Ahmed’s struggles. The competition may soon shift to the lone shortstop position.
