Nationals @ Dbacks: Goldy vs Scherzer? Yes, Please!

The Dbacks and Nationals will begin their 3-game series on Monday night at Chase Field. The Nats are coming off a sweep of Atlanta and are on a 4-game winning streak. The Dbacks are coming off a series split with San Diego and had taken both games of a doubleheader against Colorado earlier in the week.

Both teams are looking to keep their momentum up to make ground in their respective races. Washington is in 2nd place and are currently 3.5 games back of the division leading New York Mets. Arizona is at 14-16 and still at 4th place in the National League West. They are still aways from the division leading Dodgers.

Probable Pitchers

Max Scherzer (2-3, 2.11 ERA, 49 K) vs Josh Collmenter (3-3, 3.40 ERA, 21 K)

Scherzer was one of the marquee signings of the offseason. He’s a familiar face to those in the desert. Scherzer started his career wearing Sedona Red back in 2008 and 2009. He experienced a career season back in 2013 with Detroit. That season he went 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA and took home the Cy Young Award. He’s had an exceptional start to the 2015 season as well. In each of his last two starts, Scherzer has struck out 10 hitters.

Collmenter is on a bit of a hot streak as well. He’s won 3 of his last 4 starts. All 4 of those starts have been quality starts and the 3 victories has seen him go 7 innings or more. His last start against Colorado saw him surrender 5 runs and a few homers, but Arizona had a giant lead early on and Collmenter was sent to throw strikes.

Starting Lineups

This lineup will feature Pollock, Inciarte and Peralta in the outfield with Trumbo taking a seat against Scherzer. Hill and Owings will patrol the middle infielder, sending Ahmed to the bench. First pitch is at 6:40 MST in Phoenix.
