Galvis is a 25-year old Venezuelan that has in the midst of a breakout season at shortstop. After Jimmy Rollins was sent to Los Angeles, the shortstop’s position was open. If the Phillies had committed to a transition period and shipped off Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Cole Hamels as well, they would’ve had multiple Freddy Galvis-type breakout seasons on their hands.
On the 2015 season, Galvis is hitting .353 and is leading the ball club with 42 hits. He’s scored 13 runs, driven in 9 runs, and has pitched in with a homer. After 3 straight seasons of seeing sporadic playing time in Philadelphia, Galvis is finally taking the starting job and has become a positive note in Philly.
