The Aces went undefeated this week at 5-0, with two postponed due to rain. Today, they will play two against the Salt Lake Bees (Angels affiliate). The team has seen solid play from quite a few players, both journeymen and prospects alike. Danny Worth, Mike Freeman, and Kevin Frandsen continue to make contributions in the field and with the stick. Nick Evans helped clobber the Bees Saturday with a grand salami. Jarrod Saltalamacchia went hitless in his debut with the Aces after the D’backs signed him last week. But, the big notes this week were the play of Danny Dorn and Jake Barrett.
Dorn, after returning to Reno, has been on fire. He was 9-15 with a home run, 6 RBI, 4 R, and the most important statistic if you ask me, zero strikeouts. The D’backs may have needs in the majors, but Dorn doesn’t appear to be coming back in the immediate future despite his tear. With solid play all around the infield making Aaron Hill the super-sub at second and third, Dorn may be stuck for a little while. But as we all know, if you tear it up for an extended time, you can’t be ignored.
Barrett continues to impress with 3 appearances and 3 saves. These weren’t the easiest of saves this week as he had 3 walks and 3 strikeouts, as well as allowing an earned run in Tuesday’s save. With Addison Reed’s demotion from the closer role, you have to wonder when the former ASU Sun Devil Barrett will get to show what kind of moxie he has on the big stage.
