Dbacks Moves: Burgos to DL, Nuno Called Up

The Dbacks have made a roster move earlier today. Enrique Burgos has been diagnosed with right shoulder tendinitis and will be placed on the 15-Day DL. Vidal Nuno has been called up from AAA Reno. It’s a disheartening injury for Burgos, who had started to carve out his own spot in the bullpen. However, it’s a pleasant reward for Nuno, who dominated in his lone appearance in the majors this season.

So far in 2015, Burgos is 0-2 with a 4.61 ERA and has converted a couple of saves. Enri-K has struck out 25 hitters in 13 2/3 innings. That’s almost two strikeouts an inning. After saving back-to-back games against Miami, we speculated if he was a legitimate option to be the Dbacks closer somewhere down the road. It’s tough to see Burgos go on the shelf for at least a couple of weeks.

One man’s tough luck is another man’s opportunity. In Reno, Nuno’s started 8 games and has gone 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA. In his only appearance with the Dbacks, Nuno struck out 8 hitters over 6 2/3 innings in a relief appearance. He’ll return to the Dbacks bullpen with the starting rotation playing so well recently.

With Burgos on the shelf, and Nuno still a starter, the Dbacks may be in need of an actual reliever. This could open the door up for David Hernandez. Hernandez is currently on a rehab assignment, but is experiencing no hiccups whatsoever. We’ll have to wait and see whether Nuno can keep performing.
