Paul Goldschmidt vs. Matt Harvey. That’s the storyline tonight as the Arizona Diamondbacks host the New York Mets for four games beginning tonight at Chase Field. Though Goldschmidt hasn’t fared well against the Dark Knight (0 for 3, 3 strikeouts), the D’backs have hit him a little bit. In two games, (the first being his Major League debut) Harvey has thrown a total of 11 1/3 innings and allowed 12 hits and six walks. The record is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.97. Harvey struck out 11 batters in eight innings during his last start but gave up a three-run homer to Justin Bour as the Miami Marlins beat the Mets by a score of 4-3.

Taking the mound for the D’backs is Robbie Ray who was just recalled from Triple A Reno.  Ray makes his return due to Archie Bradley going on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. Ray pitched six innings in his only Snakes’ appearance this year, allowing a run on five hits in a 5-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

The Diamondbacks are 25-27, in fourth place in the National League West, 5.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets are 29-25, a half game behind the Washington Nationals. New York can regain sole possession of first place with a victory tonight and a Nats loss to the Chicago Cubs.
