Starting Lineups:

After facing the New York Mets’ best pitcher last night, the Arizona Diamondbacks get to face one that is struggling mightily. Left-hander Jon Niese takes the ball for the Amazins’, having not gone longer than five innings over his last three outings. With three of the Snakes’ four best hitters swinging from the right side (Paul Goldschmidt, A.J. Pollock and Yasmany Tomas), this could be the night Arizona puts ten on the board and get a victory. Of course, that is provided their own pitcher, Jeremy Hellickson can stay warm.

Hellickson has been better of late, winning his last two decisions. However, what would really be nice is if he can go seven innings, something he has not done so far this year. The bullpen is already beaten up and it’s only early June. Length is desperately needed by the starting pitchers over the next couple of days as a trip to Los Angeles and San Francisco looms next week.

To even split this series, the D’backs have to win this game. Niese is a guy they should be able to get to fairly early in the game. After tonight, they get Bartolo Colon who, while no Matt Harvey, does have eight wins, tied for the most in all of baseball. Then on Sunday, the Snakes have to contend with New York’s other ace, last year’s NL Rookie of the Year, Jacob deGrom. The odds of the D’backs winning three straight are pretty long. Get the “W” tonight and we’ll go from there.
