It’s no restful Father’s Day weekend for the brain trust of the Arizona Diamondbacks. My colleague Guillermo Salcido wrote the Snakes traded both Bronson Arroyo and 2014 1st round pick Touki Toussaint to the Atlanta Braves for infielder Philip Gosselin. Arizona also agreed to terms on a Minor League contract with former Colorado Rockies’ pitcher Jhoulys Chacin. This was reported by Zach Buchanan at azcentral.com.

The deal specifies that if Chacin is not on the Major League Roster by July 5th, he can opt out, according to  Augusto Cardenas who first broke the news (which was found on NBC’s Hardball Talk site):

Chacin was fairly successful while with the Rockies. He was 38-48 with a 3.62 ERA in parts of six seasons with 2013 being his best. Chacin was 14-10 with a 3.47 ERA in 31 starts. Shoulder issues limited him to 11 starts in 2014 and he was released by the Rockies in March. The 27-year old right-hander spent three months in the Cleveland Indians’ organization before being released on June 18th.
